Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to ask your help in identifying candidates for postdoctoral positions in soft active matter at Brown University. We anticipate two positions, one mainly experimental and one mainly theoretical/computational. We expect to fill the mainly experimental position first. Our research interests include membrane-based materials such as lipid bilayers and model colloidal membranes, and biological active materials such as gels, liquid crystals, and emulsions with active force-generating elements.

The successful candidate will be part of a research group consisting of Kenny Breuer, Rudolf Oldenbourg (Brown and Marine Biology Laboratory, Woods Hole), Bob Pelcovits, and Tom Powers. Successful candidates will have a background that matches (or complements) the expertise of the research group, which includes small-scale fluid mechanics, diagnostic methods for fluid mechanics, light microscopy, statistical mechanics of self-assembly, and continuum mechanics of complex fluids.
