Dear colleague,

we would like to bring to your attention the following postdoc position opening in the Theory of Condensed Matter group at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge. We would greatly appreciate if if you could circulate the announcement to any potentially interested candidates. Please note the unfortunately short closing date of Jan.16, 2015.

Kind regards,

POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN CONDENSED MATTER THEORY (closing date: Jan.16, 2015)

Applications are invited for an EPSRC funded post-doctoral research position in theoretical physics of strongly correlated systems, under the supervision of C.Castelnovo in the Theory of Condensed Matter group, Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge.

The post is available from 1 October 2015 for a duration of 2 years, with the possibility to extend to a further third year. An earlier start date can be negotiated but not before July 1st, 2015.

The post will involve studying dephasing and decoherence in quantum systems and the transition from quantum to classical behaviour, broadly interpreted. Examples of topics include: non-equilibrium phenomena in strongly correlated quantum systems; investigating classical vs. quantum spin liquids; the role of the coherence length and time scales in quantum computing; quantum entanglement in systems coupled to a thermal bath.

The candidate should have a strong background in theoretical strongly correlated physics of quantum systems. A demonstrable track record of analytical skills is required. Some prior experience in scientific programming is preferred.

The Theory of Condensed Matter group (www.tcm.phy.cam.ac.uk) in Cambridge has an established track record in strongly correlated physics and collective phenomena. The group has a lively range of scientific activities (meetings, journal clubs, internal and external seminars) and has close ties with experimental groups in the Lab. Interactions and collaborations with other members of the group and the Cavendish in general are encouraged.

If you have questions about the application, please contact Alan Clarke (ac771@cam.ac.uk).

To apply online for this vacancy, please follow this link:

and click on the 'Apply' button below. This will route you to the University's Web Recruitment System, where you will need to register an account (if you have not already) and log in before completing the online application form.

Please ensure you upload your Curriculum Vitae (CV) including a list of publications in the Upload section of the online application. If desired, candidates can also upload a brief statement of research interests, past achievements, and suitability for the role (optional). Please ensure that at least two reference letters on your behalf are sent to Alan Clarke (ac771@cam.ac.uk) by the closing date below (electronic format will suffice).

The closing date for applications is the 16th of January 2015.
