Dear Colleague,

Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics invites outstanding researchers in the area of condensed matter theory to apply for postdoctoral positions.  Several positions (for three years, or five years in some cases) are available starting in September 2014. The application deadline is November 15, 2013. However, we will start reviewing applications on November 1, 2013.

Over the last three years, Perimeter has been building up an outstanding research program in condensed matter. Recent faculty appointments include Xiao-Gang Wen, Dmitry Abanin, Sung-Sik Lee, Roger Melko, and Guifre Vidal. There are also over 15 condensed matter postdoctoral researchers. Anthony Leggett is a regular visitor, as are Perimeter Distinguished Visiting Research Chairs G. Baskaran, Ignacio Cirac, Matthew Fisher, Duncan Haldane, Leo Kadanoff, Subir Sachdev, Senthil Todadri, Ashvin Vishwanath, Zhenghan Wang, and Steven White.

Condensed matter researchers at neighbouring universities include Michel Gingras at the University of Waterloo and Catherine Kallin at McMaster University. Alongside the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) - including David Cory’s group based in the Research Advancement Centre - and the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology at the University of Waterloo, Perimeter is part of a rapidly growing community in the field of quantum condensed matter theory and experiment.

Perimeter provides both an extremely stimulating environment and unequalled research support, including highly competitive salary and benefits; research funds; support for inviting visitors and organizing conferences and workshops; opportunities for teaching or supervising projects through Perimeter Scholars International (Perimeter’s innovative masters program), the chance to supervise visiting undergraduate students; and opportunities to participate in Perimeter’s world-leading outreach program. Perimeter Institute views postdoctoral fellows as independent scientists who initiate and direct their own research programs. Perimeter is fully committed to supporting researchers as they develop their careers, and is proud of the excellent record of former Perimeter postdoctoral fellows both in making important and innovative scientific contributions and in securing excellent faculty positions.

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with researchers in Perimeter’s other focus areas, which are currently cosmology, mathematical physics, particle physics, quantum fields and strings, quantum foundations, quantum gravity, quantum information and strong gravity.
