Dear Colleagues,

A postdoctoral researcher position is available at the University of California, Berkeley, jointly between the groups of Teresa and Martin Head-Gordon in the Department of Chemistry.  The postdoc will perform research on the development and applications of advanced methods for potential energy surfaces of complex systems, and the software necessary to implement such methods.  The topics could include new potential energy functions that are quantum mechanically derived , approaches to combining fully QM methods with QM-derived methods, and the software frameworks necessary to efficiently implement and share such approaches.  Chemical applications should synergize with the method development in areas of interest to the groups, such as artificial enzyme design, and modeling catalysis within nanoporous or mesoporous materials. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. that includes large-scale programming experience in C++ or similar language, and research experience in the development of either electronic structure or statistical mechanical methods.
