Virginia Tech has a tenure-track opening at the assistant professor level in support of its Integrated Science Curriculum (ISC) (www.science.vt.edu/ais/isc), to start Fall 2014 at our Blacksburg, VA campus. Job requirements include a Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a closely related field; a research focus in chemical biology, molecular systems biology, or computational cell biology; and teaching experience with a dedication to interdisciplinary education.

The ISC program, a multi-department effort including biology, chemistry, geosciences, mathematics, physics, and statistics, resides within the College of Science’s Academy of Integrated Science (http://www.science.vt.edu/ais).  As the college’s home for interdisciplinary degrees, the Academy works with academic departments campus-wide to develop and support new directions in scientific research and education. Applications from researchers whose work and goals straddle traditional academic boundaries are especially encouraged. The tenure line for this position will be located in the department best suited to the successful candidate. Expectations include maintaining a visible and vigorous funded research program, and providing effective instruction for the ISC and within the home department.

Further information is available at the links above; questions may be directed to Dr. Gary Long (glong@vt.edu).  Applications must be submitted online at http://listings.jobs.vt.edu (#TR0130104) and should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a research plan, and a statement of teaching philosophy that describes an integrated vision for science education. Arrange for three letters of reference to be e-mailed to ais-isc@vt.edu.  Review of applications will begin on December 2, 2013 and continue until the position is filled. Virginia Tech is an EO/AA university, and offers a wide range of networking and development opportunities to women and minorities in science and engineering.
