Date:     Mon, 12 Oct 2009 17:01:29 -0700

From:     Peter Young <peter@physics.ucsc.edu>

To:     Peter Young <peter@physics.ucsc.edu>

I have an post-doctoral opening at the University of California Santa  Cruz in the field of computational statistical physics.  The main area  of interest is to use simulations to study the "quantum adiabatic  algorithm" which has been proposed for a quantum computer to solve a  broad range of optimization problems, for recent work see arXiv: 0910.1378 and arXiv:0803.3971 (Phys. Rev. Lett. 101, 170503 (2008)).  Another area of interest is phase transitions in spin glasses.

Experience with numerical techniques is necessary. Prior experience  with Monte Carlo methods would be useful but not essential.

Interested candidates should send an application to me at

peter@physics.ucsc.edu

and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the same  address.

The position is available now. However, if no suitable candidate is  available, I will wait to fill it until summer/autumn, so please also  bring this position to the attention of students who expect to  graduate next summer.

Sincerely,
